Cookie Statement
Version 1.0 — last updated 15 April 2026.
This statement describes which cookies and similar technologies
Document Works uses on the public website (document.works) and in the
application. For the broader processing of personal data, please see
our Privacy Statement.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device.
In addition to cookies, Document Works uses similar technologies such
as localStorage and sessionStorage in the browser. Where this
statement says "cookie", we mean cookie or similar technology.
Which cookies we set
1. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the service to function. Under article 11.7a of the Dutch Telecommunications Act and GDPR recital 32, no consent is required for these.
| Cookie | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
dw_session |
User login session | Session or 30 days with "remember me" |
dw_csrf |
Protection against CSRF attacks | Session |
dw_callback |
Remembers where to send you after login | Session |
dw_sso_* |
Single sign-on tokens from our identity provider | Session |
In localStorage we store limited operational state (e.g. the
last-viewed calendar cache). This data remains on your device and is
not sent to our servers.
2. Functional cookies
| Cookie | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
dw:theme |
Remembers your theme preference (light/dark) | 1 year |
dw:locale |
Remembers your language preference | 1 year |
3. Analytics cookies
We do not use third-party analytics cookies. Any technical measurements happen on our own servers, without cookies, without transfer to third parties, and are limited to aggregated error reporting and performance metrics.
4. Marketing and tracking cookies
We do not set any marketing or tracking cookies, and we do not embed third-party social media widgets on the public website.
Third-party cookies
We do not set third-party cookies. However, during a video call via
our video environment (meet.document.works) you may receive cookies
that are strictly necessary for the operation of the video call
(signaling, media connections) and that contain no tracking
functionality. The video servers run on our own infrastructure at
Hetzner.
Consent and withdrawal
Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent under article 11.7a of the Dutch Telecommunications Act. Functional cookies are only set when you actively express a preference (for example by choosing a language or a light/dark theme); setting that preference constitutes your consent. You can change these preferences or delete the associated cookies at any time via your browser settings (see below). Because we do not set analytics, marketing or tracking cookies, we do not show a cookie banner.
Deleting cookies
You can delete cookies via your browser settings. By browser:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Note that deleting strictly necessary cookies may make it impossible to sign in.
Changes
We may update this cookie statement. The most recent version is always
available at document.works/en/legal/cookies with the version and
effective date at the top.
